Day 163 - 100% Cranberry Juice

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, nah, that isn’t gonna happen, I am not buying this juice again.

Here is what to be on the lookout for...
Let’s just say, when this label says 100% CRANBERRY JUICE, they ain’t a kiddin’…  The little part that says “No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives” basically means – NO SUGAR OR ANYTHING ELSE TO MAKE THIS JUICE PALATABLE – DRINK AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I guess I am spoiled.  I see the words “Cranberry Juice” and I must just expect COCKTAIL.  Even though this label clearly does NOT say cocktail and clearly DOES say 100% juice, I did not know what I was getting myself into!  I am not sure who drinks this juice…  It is as bitter, tart and sharp as the night is long.  It is pure, unadulterated squished cranberries.  We could not even get through a shared teeny tiny juice cup – I asked David if he wanted to add some San Pelligrino bubbly water to it to try and cut it to make it better and he said, “NO!  I don’t want to waste any Pelligrino!!  I will dump that juice out!”.

Not a good way to start your morning....

WHAT THE WHAT IS IN THIS JUICE GLASS????
So we dumped out half a cup of juice, and I am now going to dump out the rest of the (almost untouched) bottle.  Sigh.  What a waste.  But we are leaving Florida tomorrow and need to clean out the fridge, and I cannot imagine the neighbors would be thankful to us for dumping this juice on them.

It is hard to RATE this product.  I mean, I guess I have never had “real” cranberry juice, only the Welch’s Cranberry Juice Cocktail kind…  So maybe, if you are into pure cranberry juice, this stuff is the bomb…  However, for my taste buds, this stuff just totally BOMBED.   So I am sorry to say I am going to have to give it a zero…  I mean, not even being able to drink a small juice glass has to equal a zero, right???  If you are a 100% cranberry juice drinker, try this.  Maybe it is good.  But if you are more on the cranberry juice COCKTAIL side, steer clear.

P.S. – my partner points out that this juice IS, in fact, what it says it is, PURE JUICE.  So perhaps the score should be higher.

P.P.S. – this stuff tastes like #^&*, I stick by the 0.  J

    1. Can't say I have any idea on that. It would be a swell question for you to pose to Trader Joe's though. As for me, I haven't thought about this juice since I had to drink it for this review in June. :)

  5. The health benefits of cranberry juice include relief from urinary tract infection, respiratory disorders, kidney stones, cancer, and heart diseases. It is also beneficial in preventing stomach disorders and diabetes, as well as gum diseases caused by dental plaque.

    2. Some people like more that fat and sugar in their diets. I love unsweetened cranberry juice. I have taken it at a doctor's request for uti's, and it helps immenseley. (as do stopping coffee and tea and drinking water. Not water in other beverages. Water.) If you like tart(like raw rhubarb)you'll love unsweetened cranberry juice. It is also an excellent coctail mixer. ...unless you like sugary drinks.

  7. Definitely for health reasons. You know when the Dr. instructs you to buy the pure cranberry? That's it. It's much better when added to water. I use it in my smoothies though. I'm not much of a sweets person. This juice gives my smoothies a nice tart flavor. I also mix in the Trader Joes frozen bing cherries. Delish!

  8. It says 100% cranberry juice. That means no additives, no added sugar and all the natural benefits from cranberries. It is a health drink. It is part of my morning pre work out snack. Usually 1/4 cup of cranberry juice, and a couple teaspoons of non fat plain Greek yogurt. This is for health benefits, not for your palate. This is why Americans are overweight. They are brain washed by the big food companies that it must taste great and be full of sugar. Great health benefits especially for men. Everyone I have recommended it to uses it like I do. Want good taste, buy the apple juice with a little cranberry added sold by the big food makers.

  9. It is definitely of benefit for UTI. Just add some Sweet & Low (no calories) to it and it goes down much easier.

  10. I like to have control over every flavor when I mix cocktails, and this is perfect as a mixer, provided you have simple syrup or another sweet component to mix with. Just a splash. Also good for smoothies in small amounts.

  12. O.k. people, this is ~Pure~ Cranberry Juice. Have you noticed that it is rare to see it sold this way? Typically, it has added water and sugar (at a "27% juice" concentration) and/or mixed with sweetening juices such as grape and apple. And how often do you see people popping whole cranberries in their mouths like they're eating a tasty berry? Cranberries are a super-tart, not-so-sweet, bitter fruit. Buying this is an option to the prepared juice cocktail, but will need to be mixed with water and a sweetener if you plan on enjoying it. Try adding stevia or an unprocessed, raw sugar as a better alternative to what the national brands use. Personally, I mix this with a typical cranberry juice cocktail: 50/50, which results in a less sweet, but very drinkable drink that contains more of the therapeutic properties than drinking the pre-blended bottles off the shelf. .

  13. I just read this, and you have my sympathy. However, 100% cranberry juice is -supposed- to be bitter, that’s not a mistake!!! People drink it for the health benefits, and I buy it knowing this… 100% cran is hard for me to find, and I’m actually grateful TJ’s sells this at a low price. If you ever wanted to try this again, you can do what I do: I pour just a little in my glass, 10% juice, followed by stevia to my taste, and 90% water!!! Lol!!! Then it tastes normal to me!!! That way I get the health benefits (I drink it daily) w/o the bitterness..

  14. My review is your reading comprehension - Zero. The label and ingredients plainly state it's 100% cranberry juice, with no mention of water or sugar. You are a moron, period.

As to who drinks this - I do. Apparently a great deal of others in my area as well as it occupies a large spot in the juice section of my local Trader Joe's. I use a 32oz cup, to which I add three ounces of juice, eight drops of 25% Sucralose, ice, and fill the rest of the glass with water. Delicious!
