I always keep a can of Trader
Joe’s Clam Chowder in the cupboard. It is a simple “go to” soup when you need
a quick lunch or when you are not feeling great and just want something hot. It is particularly good on cold winter days
(as is any soup really…).
Clam Chowder Soup |
It is nothing special – it’s clam chowder
plain and simple. Sometimes it is a wee
bit “fishy” for my taste, but it’s cheap and hearty, so it qualifies as a
staple in my book. Put a bunch of
freshly ground pepper on it, throw in a cracker or two if that is how you roll,
and call it a LUNCH.
Not too pricey - will warm you up on a cold day |

Never had canned TJ chowder but just finished a bowl of TJ clam chowder from the refrigerated area in a plastic tub. Not bad, a bit too much pepper. Could be enhanced on my next purchase with a can of clams and a few chunks of boiled potatoes. But basically good and worth a try. Of course if one grew up on the Atlantic Coast, well enough said.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh - if you thought the plastic tub was "not bad" (i.e. not great!) then I wouldn't go for the CAN if I were you :). I grew up in the Midwest - the most popular "seafood" was catfish. Haha! So I am guessing as an Atlantic Coast person your clam chowder standards are a bit higher than mine. I haven't tried the plastic tub version, but I should!
Deletejust had the tub clam chowder today, because its been a long time since had some. anyway, not from anywhere the soup originated, im from Indonesia. however, i thought the dish was fantastic! definitely a must try :)
ReplyDeleteWell that is TWO votes for the tub of chowder - I guess I need to get one soon!!! :)
DeleteThe refrigerated version in the tub is excellent. I just had it and am planning on going back to TJ's today to go get more.
ReplyDeleteSPOILER ALERT - I took your advice and got this tub o' chowder. Oh man - burp. :)
ReplyDeleteReview is going up tomorrow (December 18th).
It is so bad that Trader Joe's has discontinued their canned Clam Chowder, effective from the beginning of April 2019.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of the items that I regularly bought for my husband.
I would like to know where I could purchase it in the future.
