I Miss You!

Hi guys!  I miss you!!  :)

We went to Trader Joe's in Winter Park yesterday, and it was SO ODD to not to "have to" take photos for the blog!!  We did get a few things - I mean, just cuz the blog is "done" (save sporadic reviews) doesn't mean we are not shopping at TJ's anymore!!

We saw something while we were there that I wish I had picked up but didn't - Hatch Valley Peppers FROZEN, not the salsa!!  Has anyone else seen them?  We are totally spoiled by our usual living situation: I bet there are ten Trader Joe's in a 20 mile radius from our home...  But here in Florida it is a 90 minute drive to TJ's, sigh.  So I can't just pop back to the store to grab them!

Friends in the DC metro area that may be reading this - can one of you pick me up one of this frozen Hatch Valley pepper product and hold it for a couple of weeks for me??  I will pay you back and pick it up when we are in town.  Pretty please??  I fear they will be gone by the time we are back in Trader Joe's land!!

And readers far and wide (not only DC) - WHAT DOES ONE DO WITH THIS FROZEN PEPPER PRODUCT??  I do not know what in the world I would DO with it if I am lucky enough to snag one, but I literally lost sleep over missing out on getting one last night.  :)

Here is a quick photo of David, in case you are missing the funny shots of him with Trader Joe's products.  This one was taken yesterday in the Orlando Ikea where we made FOUR, count 'em, FOUR trips around the entiiiire store in our quest to find the perfect items!

Who DOESN'T need a SMARTASSEL, no matter the cost?????

  4. Hii!!
Well it's just not a proper blog post without a fun photo of at least one of you guys!
I was just at TJs today for more hard cider and some favorites like the triple ginger cookies, tempeh, and the japanese fried rice :)
FYI the helpful employee at the front desk told me they are no longer going to have "hatch valley" chilis in the can or as salsa, they will be called "green chilis" since the hatch valley chilis have gone up significantly in price and TJs didn't want to raise theirs. Apparently said green chilis are grown in the same region and are the exact same variety and therefore should taste the exact same. Just a different name...
Ikea tests my patience. Hope you scored some goodies and investigated the food stuff (elderflower soda!)

    1. So did your TJ's have those chilis FROZEN?? I have an open jar of Hatch Valley Salsa and a sealed one hoarded away :). Think it will taste the same when they change the name??
(Name change story: There is a game that was formerly called "Snatch". A couple of our pieces broke and I wrote the company to see if I could get replacements. While I was already writing, I explained to them how funny (and inappropriate) I thought the name SNATCH was for a game. I asked if anyone else had ever called to it to their attention?
Wellllll I didn't hear back. But a few months later I got a box in the mail. Not only did it have the replacement parts for our busted ones, it had a whole NEW game in NEW packaging with a NEW NAME - they changed it to "SNATCH IT - a Word Game". :)
I like to think my letter had something to do with it. :) Of course, I keep our game tiles in the original SNATCH package.

  5. PS That must be satisfying to look at the archives tab and see exactly 365 entries for 2015!

  6. So, what DID you get at Ikea?! I've only been once, we roamed glassy-eyed for hours, and finally left with a generic $15 floor lamp available probably everywhere!

Anyway, love your TJ posts and hope to see more, even tho the project is officially over.

    1. I can tell you one thing we did NOT buy - a Smarassel!! (Though one time at Ikea I bought a FartyG because, well, because it was named FartyG...)
We actually bought a LOT! A sort of cupboard unit, a wooden stand, a butcher block, pot lid, new little bowls, and 3 sizes of new cups!!! Photos of the cupboard unit to come in a review soon!! :)

  7. I'm New Mexican, and happily shop at Winter Park Trader Joe's frequently as it is 15 minutes from me. The chiles (yes I spelled it correctly) at guajillo chiles from the Hatch Valley. As a transplant from New Mexico I was elated to find them here. I can't get chile anywhere else locally. You may a roux, add garlic, canned/stewed tomato, onion, chicken stock and chile to make "enchilada" sauce. We just call it green. Add them to soup, pizza, burgers, cheese fries, or Apple pie. Yes. Apple pie. It's amazing! My personal favorite is adding it to the Sicilian Pizza. Yum yum!
